Apple launched its App Store for iPhones in iTunes on July 11, 2008 and since then they have offered more than 10,000 applications in less than five months.
The App Store was an instant hint the day it was launched with 500 applications; 150 of them were free. It was a huge success and within one month, Apple reported sales worth more than $30 million.
Thanks to its iPhone SDK, many businesses and individuals are able to create custom iPhone applications for the iPhones as well as for the iPod Touch.
It has made some software developers millionaires also. Apple gives the bulk back to the developers (70 per cent) for every application sold through iTunes.
The 10,000applications milestone is remarkable; it just makes Apple iPhone formidable for any competitor and creates a smarter smartphone for its customers.
