In regards to Iraq, the Humane Society International wants the Iraqi government to change its approach towards handling stray dogs.
Asides the fighting and building up the government in Iraq, there is another mission: the elimination of stray dogs. The Iraqi government had launched an initiative to reduce and curb the number of deaths by dog attacks.
However, the Humane Society International has expressed concern that the methods by the Iraqi government are barbaric and unnecessary. So far, the current methods used to curb the attacks are deadly. The current tools employed by the Iraqi government are a combination of poisoned meat and ammunition.
In one week, the number of dogs killed was in the triple digits.
The number of deaths and the methods had raised much alarm with the animal rights group. It said that it wants to work with the government to come up with a better and more humane solution to the problem.
It is unknown how the Iraqi government will respond to the Humane Society’s request of working together for better ways to deal with the problem.
Until then, the Iraqi government will probably do what it has been doing to curb the number of attacks and deaths by dogs.
