Congressman Dr Paul Broun visited Fort Gordon in Augusta, GA today to serve Thanksgiving Dinner to the troops and their families.
Fort Gordon served an impressive Thanksgiving dinner to the fine men and women who serve the United States Army at Fort Gordon. Broun arrived at the military base to begin serving at 11:00 am today.
The menu included the traditional American favorites like turkey, ham, stuffing and gravy, along with not-so-traditional items such as sushi platter, shrimp cocktail, and fresh strawberries for the chocolate fondue fountain. Their was a beautiful "champagne fountain" serving sparkling grape juice, an incredible salad bar, and rows of cakes. The tables were covered with linen table clothes complete with candles, balloons, and an elegant menu of all the dishes available.
Many soldiers took turns in the serving line, some dressed as turkeys, and more soldiers even supplied live music. Some families who lived on base showed up to dine along with family members visiting their loved ones from out of town. The dining hall was filled with people of all ages, there were babies in strollers and grandparents enjoying the huge feast with some of our finest Americans. Smiles filled the room, even those working and serving were filled with pure delight.

After his time behind the line, serving our soldiers, Congressman Broun took time to sit and enjoy the meal along side these men and women and their families. It was an experience to remember. In the spirit of the Holiday known as Thanksgiving, it was an honor to spend this time letting them know that they are not forgotten. These brave men and women and their families are something to truly be thankful for.
Digitial Journal was able to capture a lot of great photos not only in the dining hall, but of other activities throughout the military base. You can view the entire photo album here. This journalist was very moved by the detail and work that went into this event.
Happy Thanksgiving America.
