At the Los Angeles 2008 Auto Show, fuel cell packaging demonstrated green performance potential with the release of the radical and futuristic Honda FC Sport that has surprised the motoring world.
The three-seater, hydrogen-powered sports car hints of Honda sports cars to come. The FC Sport uses the Honda V flow fuel cell already setup in the Honda FXC Clarity. The stunning design of the the FC Sport is meant to invoke the concept of high performance, low weight hydrogen sports car.
The FC Sport is the supercar to the FCX's stately sedan, and is reconfigured into a lightweight sports car design with an ultra- low centre of gravity, powerful electric motor performance, electrically driven fuel cell powertrain.
Dan Bonawitz, vice president of American Motor Co., Inc. says,
The Honda FC Sport explores how to satisfy automotive performance enthusiasts in a world beyond petroleum. People who love sports cars will still have a reason to 'love' in a hydrogen powered future.
The sleek aero dynamic body contributes to the vehicles performance potential. The majority of vehicle mass is distributed between the axles creating the balanced weight distribution sought after in sports cars. A modular approach to fuel cell component packaging and electric drivetrain contribute to the FC Sport's low centre of gravity.
