Ridiculous story of the year? Google’s new voice search app is the droolworthy thing of the year. Google was supposed to be launching it on iPhone on Friday… and nothing happened, except the blogiverse going nuts.
Techcrunch:
Google was under the impression that the application would be live on the App Store on Friday (obviously, since they pushed all significant press attention to it). Sometime Friday they found out Apple wouldn’t be pushing it, despite the fact that Google submitted it for review earlier in the week and got a thumbs up for Friday. One source says they’ve had little direct contact with Apple during the review, instead getting their updates via the standard iPhone developer tool, which has said “in review” for the last few days.
So the next logical step to the iEverything has developed a bit of a limp.
Voice searching is a sort of good idea for a phone, well according to most humans, anyway.
If perchance accidentally linked to an iPhone, it might just possibly be commercially viable.
But from apogee to absurdity seems to be a relatively simple process.
Google News currently has 131 stories, including 35 blogs, on the subject. It's an interesting search, including some of the pre-nothing happening articles. FEMA couldn’t have got more negative press if it had tried to stage a remake of Hurricane Katrina.
Recent articles about voice search have run the gamut from Android addicts to CNET to
Gizmodo, to our own
Chris V Thangham's previous article, and the scorn is pretty obvious from those now reporting the failure to get running.
After all, how hard can it be to approve something which will sell millions of iPhones? It could kick start the US economy all by itself.
This app is supposed to be operating on Monday, presuming it’s not lost in the works again. Well, there's always yelling real loud if you want to know something, of course.
