Josef Fritzl, who became famous after the notorious incest case, is being charged with the death of Elisabeth Fritzl’s infant child.
It has been several months since the notorious Josef Fritzl incident in Austria. To jog up our memories, here is a recap of the incident:
Josef Fritzl had imprisoned his daughter Elisabeth for twenty-four years. Elisabeth was eighteen during the time of imprisonment. Josef had constantly raped his daughter. As a result, he and Elisabeth had children out of incest.
Their daughter Kerstin Fritzl had fallen into an artificial coma back in April. This was the trigger that unveiled this dark secret revolving around Josef Fritzl. It was revealed through testing that Kerstin was the daughter of incest.
Around in June, Kerstin had awoken from her coma.
On an interesting note during that time, Josef Fritzl had received many love letters. However, Fritzl insisted that he was a victim as well. So far, Fritzl is behind bars on the charges of rape, incest, slavery, and false imprisonment.
However, the prosecutors are not done.
Now, they plan on going after Fritzl for the infant’s death. They charge Fritzl for not intervening while he knew about the infant’s life-threatening situation. This is another thing that can be added to the list of charges when Fritzl stands trial in 2009.
However, there is no death penalty in Austria. But, Fritzl is looking at a life sentence. Prosecutors say that he is mentally competent to stand trial.
This is also historic for Austria because Fritzl will be the first Austrian charged and tried on slavery.
