The first one was definitely a miracle. But now the first pregnant man,Thomas Beatie, is expecting yet another bundle of joy.
Thomas Beatie, a transgender man who gave birth earlier this year, is once again expecting. In an interview with Barbra Walters, Beatie told her that he is in his first trimester and all is going well.
"I feel good," he said. "I had my checkups with my hormone level, as far as the HCG. And everything is right on track."
Beatie's first child, Susan, was born on June 12th. It was a "natural" birth by all acounts (no Cesarean) with a 40-hour label. Thomas' wife, Nancy, cut the chord.
When Beatie announced to The Advocate magazine that he was pregnant, he was suprised how quickly the news spread. The thought of a pregnant man shocked the world from end to end, causing the Beaties to live a slightly sheltered life in Bend, Oregon. Although the couple made an appearance on Oprah, the Beaties have kept largely to themselves. Their home has surveillance cameras and they keep their blinds drawn.
Thomas insists, however, that they live like a normal family, despite the fact that he's a transgendered male who was formally a beauty queen and is married to a woman.
"We are a man, woman and child. It's ironic that we are so different but yet, we're just a family, just the same as anyone else," he said.
