As I watched last night's CMA awards, I was stuck by how different this show was in comparison to other award shows. There seemed to be something very unusual but I couldn't quite identify it. Then it hit me. These people actually liked America!
There were no preachy acceptance speech tirades admonishing me to reduce my carbon footprint. No anorexic, pasty skinned, used up old crack whore telling me to sell my SUV and drive an earth friendly hybrid vehicle. Missing was the washed up actor ranting against my President. There was not one sexually confused singer telling me that our troops could not win the war or that their lives were being wasted in the name of oil. Nobody holding their baggy FUBU pants by the crotch told me that Bush hates black people. Nobody pointed their bony vegan finger at me and told me that eating meat was murder. All this was absent from the Country Music Awards show.
Last night we were entertained by regular people who love America. People who have tremendous respect, love and admiration for the men and women in uniform. Several performers had flags, or red white and blue imagery in the background as they entertained, without lecturing. The wife of a fallen soldier even introduced Carrie Underwood, an Oklahoma girl, who sang a patriotic song.
It was just nice to watch a show featuring celebrities who don't hate America.
