Mitch Mitchell, Drummer For Jimi Hendrix, Dead At Age 61

Mitch Mitchell has been found dead at the age of 61 in his hotel room early Wednesday. The drummer for Jimi Hendrix Experience was the last surviving member of the group.

Mitchell's powerful drumming style was a central part of the band's 1967 album "Are You Experienced?" Mitchell had been staying at Portland, Oregon's Benson Hotel. An employee discovered his body Wednesday morning and called the police. It appears the Englishman died of natural causes. An autopsy is planned. Mitchell was on a four-day vacation and had planned on leaving Wednesday. Mitchell performed just two weeks ago in Los Angeles. On Friday he performed in Portland as part of the Experience Hendrix Tour.
