The 2008 Scotiabank Giller Prize has been awarded to Joseph Boyden for his novel Through Black Spruce. The prize comes with a purse of $50,000.
Canadian author Joseph Boyden's novel Through Black Spruce has been awarded the Scotiabank Giller Prize. The novel is about a Canadian aboriginal woman who goes missing in New York City.
The winning novel was announced on November 11th in an hour-long program on the Bravo television network hosted by Canada AM's Seamus O'Regan. The program highlighted each of the nominated works and each nominated author got a leather bound copy of their novel.
Joseph Boyden currently teaches writing at the University of Louisiana in New Orleans. He also has a home in Northern Ontaio.
