The Caribbean island nation of Antigua and Barbuda has decided to rename the highest peak in the country as 'Mount Obama' in honour of the US president-elect.
The 1,327-foot (402-metre) volcanic peak is located in Southwestern Antigua. The mountain peak currently known as ' boggy peak ', is a popular hiking spot. The peak also serves as a transmission site for broadcasting and telecommunications for the island.
The prime minister, Baldwin Spencer wrote in a congratulatory message to Barack Obama
I shall take immediate measures for Antigua and Barbuda's highest mountain peak to be dedicated in your honor and renamed 'Mount Obama.Your message of change will ignite hope and action in people of many countries who might still be passive in the face of inadequacies and injustice.Your election will not only transform America, it can transform the world.
He expected the Parliament to pass a legislation approving the name change. The country expects more tourists to visit the peak in the coming months after the name change.
