Oxford University researchers tracked various media sources and have listed the top 10 most annoying phrases found in the English language.
Renowned for research, Oxford University is showing their humorous side by compiling the “Top 10 Most Irritating Expression in the English Language."
Researchers keep track of all language abuses and over-use of buzzwords, and then enter them into a database. The scholars tracked books, magazines, television, online media and other sources and noted the following overused and annoying phrases:
1 - At the end of the day
2 - Fairly unique
3 - I personally
4 - At this moment in time
5 - With all due respect
6 - Absolutely
7 - It's a nightmare
8 - Shouldn't of
9 - 24/7
10 - It's not rocket science
This list is available in their new book, Damp Squid: The English Language Laid Bare, by Jeremy Butterfield.
So next time you speak or write, try to avoid the phrases above. At the end of the day, you want to be fairly unique when you speak, and I personally and absolutely think it's not rocket science.
