You may think your base went to bed last night in shock and woke up this morning wondering where we go from here. You would be wrong.
We knew weeks ago that regardless of the election results, conservative Americans and Republican voters would wake up on November 5th with plenty of work ahead of them. The only solace we would have found in a McCain win is that Sarah Palin would now be entrenched in Washington, DC. It is not just Sarah’s common sense and understanding of the everyday, middle American that we trust, it is her willingness to stand up to the establishment political machine that has inspired us.
Governor Palin understands two very important things you folks in DC have not only denied, but refuse to accept. Number one, you are not there to win favor with the liberal media that likes to call themselves “main stream.” Number two, you work for us.
Many Republican candidates are wondering this morning what they could have done differently during their campaign. You didn’t do your job. You are asking yourself what issues you should have hammered more. You are asking yourself what doors you should have knocked on. You are asking where we were. What were we thinking?
Here is clue one. Don’t you ever again entertain the little thought in your head that it is up to us to work harder for you. Don’t let your little mind travel through the trap of how we should have donated more money, volunteered more time to man phones, make calls, hand out signs, or walk neighborhoods. We are not here to serve you and get your asses elected. You are elected to serve and represent us. When you march into DC and act like a big government Democrat that knows more than us little people about how government knows best and can fix things, don’t expect us to search for the difference between you and those Democrats.
Of all of the national races, the one that brings me the most joy is the Senate race here in Georgia. This was a three way race between Republican Incumbent Saxby, Democrat Martin, and Libertarian Buckley. This was the first year my son, a college student was able to vote. He knows we share the same values, and that I am very involved in politics. We discussed who to vote for. It was basically a vote R the whole way down the ticket conversation, except for one race; the Senate race. Traditionally, Saxby could have counted on 2 votes from this household, but not this time. I voted for Buckley, and my son voted for Jim Martin.
Saxby betrayed us with his stand on illegal immigration. Saxby stabbed the House Republicans in the back and betrayed us on the energy issue. Saxby has been giving “advice” to Phil Gingrey, an adored Congressman in my area who usually gets his votes right. The last straw was Saxby’s vote for the scam on the American people popularly known as “the bailout.”
Not only is it important that Saxby be removed from Washington due to his own behavior, but it is vital that Johnny Isakson take note and learn from this event. We, the people, are not blind fools in love with the letter “R.” We, the people, cast votes in the belief that those we elect will go to Washington, DC to do our bidding, serve us, and work for us. When you fail to do this, and you become puppets of big government, special interests, and media whores, we will not look the other way due to fear of the dreaded letter “D.”
Our work is not done. We, the people know it, and we will not slink into corners begging the Republicans to fix this. We have spoken.
The question is not what do we do now? The question is; have you heard us?
