Democratic nominee Senator Barack of Illinois has scored a historical victory as he is elected the next President of the United States, let alone the first African-American leader of the country.
The 2008 United States Elections are over. It is Democratic nominee Senator Barack Obama that had triumphed over GOP nominee Senator John McCain of Arizona in the 2008 US Presidential race. Obama has scared a historical victory, a major victory, and a symbolic victory.
He is now elected as the 44th President of the United States. However, Obama is the first African-American US President. This victory was a landslide victory as Obama had won 338 electoral votes. A minimum of 270 electoral votes is needed to win the US Presidency.
McCain only ended up with 156 electoral votes.
Obama had just given a speech at Chicago’s Grant Park to celebrate the victory.
Because of what we did on this day, in this election, in this defining moment, change has come to America,” Obama addressed his large crowd of supporters. He had scored victories in crucial battleground states of Florida, Colorado, and Ohio. Also, Obama had scored victories in states that current US President George W. Bush had won back in 2000 and 2004.
As a result, McCain was forced to play defense in red states that Obama was gaining ground in.
Overall, the 2008 US Election race is over. It is Barack Obama who came out on top as the next US President. This was a long campaign. Now, the campaign is all over. The next step would be the inauguration taking place January of 2009.
