In Hart’s Location and Dixville Notch, New Hampshire, the tradition of casting the first votes on Election Day lives on. Barack Obama was the winner of the first official results announced early on Tuesday from the two small towns.
In Hart's Location of the 29 votes recorded; 17 went for the Barack Obama, 10 for John McCain and two for write-in Ron Paul. Obama defeated McCain by a count of 15 to 6 in Dixville Notch.
While Hart's Location maintained its primary voter number, voter turnout was higher in Dixville notch that in the primary where only seventeen combined Republican and Democratic votes were tallied. Dixville Notch has correctly picked the general election winner in 6 of the 12 held since 1960.
Both towns had favored George W Bush in the last two elections.
