article imageElvis Presley Still the Top Earning Dead Celebrity

By M Dee Dubroff     Nov 3, 2008 in Entertainment
Although he can no longer leave buildings and hasn’t for more than three decades, Elvis Presley is still earning money and according to Forbes Magazine, he remains the top earning dead celebrity for the second year in a row. Read on but …don’t be cr
According to news sources, the “King of Rock n’ Roll” pulled in $52 million dollars last year, which isn’t bad for someone who is dead. This figure did increase substantially as more visitors came to Graceland to commemorate the 30th anniversary of his death and publicity was also generated by new ventures such as the Elvis Sirius Satellite Radio show.
A spokesman from Forbes said:
“While things might be topsy-turvy in the financial markets above ground, it's still a bull market in the boneyard.”
It is certainly an odd phenomenon that a dead singer, however popular, could earn more between October of 2007 and October of 2008 than some of the music industry's biggest living pop stars like Justin Timberlake ($44 million) and Madonna ($40 million). Forbes claims that the figures were extrapolated from sources inside the dead celebrities’ estates and researched gross earnings before taxes and other costs between October of 07 and 08.
Second on the list with $33 million was cartoonist, Charles Schultz and actor, Heath Ledger is third with an estimated $20 million in earnings. Albert Einstein is #4, with $18 million in earnings stemming mostly from Baby Einstein, and producer, Aaron Spelling was ranked five with $15 million in earnings.
