Magic Johnson Voices Opposition To Prop. 8

As the issue of same-sex marriage continues to get heated up in the state of California, Basketball Hall of Famer Magic Johnson is voicing his opposition against Proposition 8.

There is only one day left until Election Day on November 4. As Election Day draws closer, the tension becomes thicker. It looks as the tension is thick enough that one can cut it repeatedly with a knife. Of course the US Presidential race between GOP Presidential nominee Senator John McCain of Arizona and Democratic Presidential nominee Senator Barack Obama of Illinois is becoming beyond red hot. In the state of California, there is a campaign that is just as red hot. Yes, we are looking at the Proposition 8 campaign. There are the respective “Yes on 8” and “No on 8” campaigns. If Proposition 8 passes, there will be a ban on same-sex marriage placed in the California State Constitution. Proposition 8 has been one of the costliest campaigns in California. Proponents and opponents of Proposition 8 have been pouring in millions of dollars. That is proof of the intensity surrounding this campaign. So far, there have been several companies such as Apple Inc. that have been giving money to the No on 8 Campaign. There have been celebrities weighing in on the matter. One such celebrity is Magic Johnson. For those keeping track of the NBA, Magic Johnson is a basketball legend. Johnson is a Basketball Hall of Famer. His achievements would be five NBA championships, three MVP awards, and three Finals MVP awards. Johnson was part of the 1992 US Dream Team at the Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. The Dream Team won gold at the Olympics. He is also honored as one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History. After retiring, Johnson is now an advocate on safer sex and the prevention of AIDS/HIV. He also works as a commentator for NBC. In the minority areas of Los Angeles, Johnson has a chain of “Magic Johnson Movie Theatres.” In regards to Proposition 8, Johnson has voiced his opposition. This comes after Barbara Young, the wife of Steve Young, had announced her opposition. Steve Young is a legendary NFL quarter back, Pro Football Hall of Famer, 1992 NFL MVP, and Super Bowl XXIX MVP. In a new recorded telephone call set to reach voters across the state, Johnson has voiced his opposition to Proposition 8. Johnson explains that Proposition 8 will single out one group of people to be treated differently. He went in-depth saying that those people would be family members, friends, and co-workers. So far, it looks like Magic Johnson is voting “NO” on Proposition 8.
