To Advocate Safe Sex, Thinking Outside The Box Is Required

In order to advocate safe sex, it would strongly require thinking “outside of the box.” So far, there have been some methods revealed that could make one blink or gape.

One of biggest battles in the world today is the fight against AIDS and HIV. It is known that one of the most known methods of contracting this would be through sexual intercourse, let alone unprotected sexual intercourse. Unprotected sex does lead to the contraction and spread of many different sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). While abstinence is the number one method of not catching or giving an STD, there are plenty of people in the world that engage in sexual activity. Abstinence remains the number one method. The use of condoms is possibly listed as the number two method to fight against the spread of STDs. However, condoms can be improperly used. In addition, there is also the risk of the condom breaking. Even with proper use of the condom, there is still the chance of contracting an STD anyway. It has been revealed that condom use is highly unpopular in many parts of the globe today. So far, the conventional methods to advocating safe sex need to be supplemented by non-conventional methods. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is launching one initiative in India. It is financing this initiative known as the “condom ring tone.” Yes, this is a ring tone that promotes the use of condoms. In India, it is revealed that there is a misconception about condoms because only prostitutes must use them. Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft, is combating the stigma and misconception. The ringtone being financed is “Condom, Condom.” This is one creative way to advocate the use of condoms. So far, this will be implemented in India. It is unknown if and when this will initiative will be launched in other parts of the world. In the case of Ethiopia, the US nonprofit group known as DKT is launching a new line of condoms. What is so different about these condoms? These new condoms give of the scent and taste of coffee. Yes, there are coffee flavored condoms available in Ethiopia. While condoms do not grow on trees, an initiative in Australia is close enough. Nurses have taken the initiative to hang canisters from under the trees. These canisters are filled with condoms. So far, it is revealed that this method is working quite well for Australia. Perhaps this method could be implemented in other parts of the world as well. Condom companies in Argentina are using scare tactics. But, the use of scare tactics is not something new in the advocacy of safe sex and condom use. Proponents of abstinence have used scare tactics as a method for quite a long time. These are examples of thinking outside of the box to advocate safe sex. Perhaps other countries will launch their own original initiatives to promote the practice of safe sex. The ring tone, the coffee flavored condoms, and the condom trees are pretty original ideas. So far, these methods seem to be effective. This brings forth the example on the fight against AIDS, HIV, and other STDs, is evolving. These are strong examples of thinking outside of the box.
