They are getting on, old enough to be grandfathers, far from attractive to look at and still prancing around the stage in that school boy get up which is one of the oldest gags in rock music, yet when it comes to winning our hearts AC/DC, still do it
They were the legends of rock. With that screeching vocal and heavy drum they have loaded stadiums all over the world, but you think that these monsters of rock, like many others like them would have had their day. Filling concerts thirty years ago is certainly not something you think about doing when you're fast approaching retirement, yet it would seem that rock is far from dead, and British born AC/DC are no exception.
Reported in the BBC website today, lead vocal of AC/DC, fuzzy haired, cap wearing, Brian Johnson felt quite emotional when he was literally shocked that their latest album, Black Ice has gone straight in at the top slot in the US charts.
The aging rockies who have resided in Australia since the mid seventies have sold a staggering 780,000 copies of their most recent album so much so that they have entered the American charts straight in at number one.
Mr Johnson said of their success,
"It's overwhelming, and quite hard to take in. Even an old dog like me has a few more surprises in life, I guess..."
So who indeed was sitting slightly sulking and a little petulant at number two? High School Musical, confirming that indeed, the rock years still reign. Since the late eighties and early nineties and the event of regenerating heavy metal in major movies, Wayne's World, rock has pulled in a far greater crowd than bubblegum pop. Not only has the album joined the "hall of fame" in America, but it has also been a massive hit in 29 other countries.
Along with the Eagles and Journey, AC/DC have gained unusual success, selling through equally giants, Wal-Mart.
