article imageMichelle Obama To Leno: We Buy the Clothes We Wear

By Chris V. Thangham     Oct 28, 2008 in Politics
Senator Obama’s wife Michelle appeared on the "Tonight Show" with Jay Leno on Monday night. Leno asked her a lot of questions about elections, dress, and other issues.

Part 1 Interview.

Part 2 Interview
Leno asked Michelle about the outfit she was wearing and whether it was worth $60,000 to $70,000 (he was making reference to recent news that Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin spent $150,000 on clothing).
Michelle said, "Actually, this is a J. Crew ensemble." In response, Leno told Michelle he didn't know what that meant. He then asked Michelle if she thought Palin overspent on her dresses, and asked if that was a bad move on her part.
Michelle defended Palin, telling Leno:
"I try to be empathetic...I mean, especially a VP pick, it's like being shot out of a cannon ...All of a sudden, you are the center of attention.”
She then talked about how they buy dresses in the Obama family, saying, "Whatever we wear, for us, we buy."
She also said she is very happy to be campaigning with her husband Barack. She said she would rather get opinions directly from the people rather than from the polls and from TV.
The videos above shows Michelle's full interview with Leno in two parts.
