Any time Halloween comes around, parents are always advised to inspect the candies their children receive. This year has proven more challenging because the danger in some candy cannot be seen by the naked eye.
Just days before Halloween, another candy product has been recalled as a result of melamine contamination. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is
warning the public not to consume, distribute, or sell
Sherwood Brands Pirate's Gold Milk Chocolate Coins.
The affected product, Sherwood Brands Pirate’s Gold Milk Chocolate Coins, is sold in 840g containers containing 240 pieces per container bearing UPC 0 36077 11240 7 and lot code 1928S1.
Melamine is a chemical compound used in a variety of commercial and industrial applications. This chemical has been the focus of the recent infant deaths reported in China and causing over 50,000 others to fall ill. While there have been no reports of sicknesses related to the consumption of the Sherwood Brands product, consumers are advised to check with the retailer they purchased it from to check if it is indeed tainted with melamine.
