More and more Republicans are seemingly expecting their Presidential nominee to lose. The latest - Connecticut Rep. Chris Shays.
"I just don't see how McCain can win." These words, interestingly, do not come from an Obama supporter. Chris Shays, the only House Republican in New England, has publicly shown his dissatisfaction with John McCain.
"He has lost his brand as a maverick; he did not live up to his pledge to fight a clean campaign," Shays told the Yale Daily News earlier this week.
Shays is just the latest in a growing group of Republicans speaking out against McCain. Previous detractors include former Maryland Sen. Charles Mathias, former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld, and former Secretary of State Colin Powell.
Arizona Sen. Jon Kyl and former GOP presidential Candidate Mitt Romney have also predicted the likely loss of the McCain campaign.
However, Shays does not approve of Obama either.
He believes that Obama will not govern from the centre if elected. “It’s what all presidents should do, but [Obama] has never been there,” he said.
