Rookie police officer in Florida tazes a teenage volunteer during a party at the officer's home. The 22-year-old police officer was fired after the department learned of the tazing and underage drinking that also occurred.
An already controversial topic with skeptics of the shocking device seeing it as an unnecessary and deadly tool for police to use on perps, especially in the hands of untrained individuals. Well, their argument may have just become a bit more valid as a
police officer in Florida gets fired over a taser incident. But what he did may do more than stun you.
Dan NeSmith, a 22-year-old rookie police officer on the Eustis, FL police department was seen in a video tazing a 15-year-old volunteer at a party with somewhere between 40-50 party guests cheering him on. Yes, the teen volunteered to endure the tasering.
Because the teenager volunteered to be tazed, the officer did not face charges for that. However, according to the CNN report, around half of the party goers were under 21-years-old and, yes, there was alcohol and under-aged drinking involved so if parents decide to press alcohol related charges, the officer may very well be in the future hot seat.
The celebratory event was actually a birthday party for a 19-year-old and was held at NeSmith's home.
This does bring into question situations where very young adults in positions such as police officers and teachers associate with their peers who aren't much younger and where only a few years prior, they might have been in the same social setting doing the same things but it be considered just living it up or getting it out of one's system.
Guess NeSmith learned the hard way that there is indeed a fine line between friends and responsibility.
