About 100,000 people attended a Saturday rally in St. Louis, Missouri to see Sen. Barack Obama. It is his biggest crowd ever at a U.S. event.
Missouri is a red state mostly votes for the Republican party, to see a massive crowd in St. Louis must give hope for Barack Obama. For months now Obama was trailing behind Republican John McCain by nearly ten percentage points in Missouri.
A record 100,000 attended the rally under the Gateway Arch to hear Obama talk about his tax plans and economic issues.
Lt. Samuel Dotson of the St. Louis Police Department confirmed the attendance figure to Wall Street Journal.
McCain is campaigning in Virginia and North Carolina, an estimated 4,000 to 5,000 attended his rallies.
A recent Rasmussen poll released on Friday showed Obama leading McCain in Missouri by six percentage points (52% to 46% for McCain).
Obama also drew a large crowd in Portland, Oregon, more than 75,000 attended a rally early this May.
