Travelers in the U.S. could soon be stepping on a scanner instead of removing their shoes at airport security. The MagShoe scanner is already in use at Israeli airports.
It has been reported that the US Transportation Security Administration is assessing the feasibility of the machine for national airports.
MagShoe was created by IDO Security 2000 ltd in Israel. The device x-rays lower legs and the shoes of passengers reducing the wait time at security while not compromising security.
Instead of passengers taking the time to remove their shoes they simply step onto the scanner for 2 seconds. The scanner detects if there is the presence of unusual quantities of metal indicating a knife or bomb detonator.
The Telegraph reports:
Nissim Ben-Ezra, security technologies manager for Israel's Airports Authority, said: "We have hundreds of people going through this machine and it enables us to take off less shoes than we used to do before. That gives us very good service with security to the passengers in order to let them go as fast as possible to the plane."
