An Entertainment Shocker? Madonna And Guy Ritchie Are Getting Unhitched

Remember the Scottish Castle fairytale wedding in 2000 that lacked in any photos? As of today, the fairytale is over. Madonna and Guy Ritchie are calling it quits.

Marriage to those of celebrity status equates to nothing more than an impulsive act involving million dollar attire and an 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper. For many stars, the marriage is often short-lived, some for mere months such as the case of Rene Zellweger and Kenny Chesney, when they realize that being hitched wasn't all glamour and red carpet walks. Today, one of the hottest female entertainers in the industry announced that she is soon to be on the market. Not that it made a difference in light of the recent scandal over her alleged affair with Alix Rodriguez. An exclusive report in The Sun explains details of the "imminent" proceedings:

...she and Brit movie director Guy, 40, want a divorce finalised before Christmas — which would have seen the eighth anniversary of their fairytale wedding in a Scottish castle.

Other sources told The Sun that Madonna wanted to wait until her Sticky and Sweet tour wrapped up in 2009 to make an announcement, but for some reason she changed her mind and wants a divorce by Christmas.

It wasn’t a matter of ‘if’ but ‘when’. They tried hard over the last few months but their fighting was getting out of control.

A private source of the paper described how mounting tensions over her alleged affair with baseball star, Alex Rodriguez whose divorce from his wife recently made the list of New York's Nastiest. The unnamed source also told The Sun how Ritchie was tired of taking a back seat to the 50-year-old sex symbol and the roller-coaster lifestyle they were leading. It had also been reported that Madonna wanted to adopt another child but that Ritchie wasn't so keen on the idea. Madonna and Ritchie have two children together and one who is from a previous relationship: Lourdes who is 12, Rocco who is 8 and David Banda, 2. Lourdes is the daughter of Carlos Leon, the Cuban born personal trainer, actor and Broadway star. David Banda was adopted in 2006. Stories of how they slept in separate beds during a romantic get-away, continuous fights between the couple, an earlier leak about a separation and many other factors are apparently contributing to the couple's decision to end it since they "can’t bear to live with the pretence any longer." After eight years, the couple is calling it quits.
