What's in a name? Apparently a lot when you run for office. It is pretty sad when the best reason not to vote for the opponent is his name. If you are a smart supporter of McCain, this isn't for you.
To whom it may concern,
Until the election, my new middle name on Facebook and Myspace will be Hussein. Why? Because there are ignorant people who try to stir up fear by using Barack's middle name against him. They've never called John Sydney McCain's name out. They didn't even really say Hillary Rodham Clinton although that's her maiden name.
But Barack HUSSEIN Obama? Can't you just draw attention to the issues, how you disagree with his plan, how you think he's presidency will not be as effective as your candidates?
You know what this means to me? This means that you assume voters are stupid. They are too stupid to care about true politics, bringing back the real. You assume that your man's plan is not good enough to win the election, so you might as well scare the hell out of those who aren't paying attention to anything but sound bites.
But there's more to the story. See, there are sites like factcheck.org that put those scare tactics of "Hussein" and "he's gonna raise your taxes!" and "he hangs out with terrorists!". My personal factcheck says that Regan and Bush41 did more than serve on community boards with a former terrorist.
They supported a couple, too: Bin Laden and Saddam, using them to fight against Russians and Iranians. Don't drag out skeletons when your
closet is full of bones. Even McCain
knows this is ridiculous
People are logging onto sites like digitaljournal.com and reading real research. They are looking at all the angles. They are going beyond the pundits on the left and the right. They know your scare tactics and, frankly, they are actually driving support away from McCain.
If you don't like Obama b/c you don't like his tax plan, you don't like his party, you don't like his foreign policy ideas, then fine. Tout them. Put out the facts and push it to people as why they won't work. Explain why McCain's bailout ideas are better than Barack's. But please, quit assuming the rest of us out here are too stupid to not vote for a guy because his middle name is Hussein. We all want better than what's been going on. Don't make yourselves look stupid.
After all, this would be a different story if McCain's middle name was Adolf.
Sincerely,
Paul "Hussein" Bright
