In a bid to turn the tables on internet pirates, warez distributors, and other intellectual property offenders, a new government post has been created.
WASHINGTON - US President George W. Bush approved a bill that will create a new post in the executive branch in an effort to fight against intellectual property violations.
Already dubbed the "IP Czar", the person filling the post will be appointed by the President.
The Prioritizing Resources and Organization for Intellectual Property Act (PRO-IP) gives the government greater strength of law to prosecute intellectual property offenders.
Currently, internet piracy and similar concerns are handled by a disparate collection of agencies, without a central governing body.
However, some have criticized the move, pointing out that the war on drugs did not turn around despite the appointment of a "Drug Czar".
