Gay couples from California are rushing to wed before Election Day. The rush to the altar is because of an initiative aimed at banning same-sex marriages due to be voted on in November.
That rush is causing for lines at city clerk offices. With
Proposition 8 gaining momentum and appointments for marriage licenses slowed because of the rush some gay couples fear they will not be allowed to be married once Election Day passes by.
There are only three states in the U.S. that allow same-sex marriages; California, Massachusetts and Connecticut.
California passed laws that have allowed same-sex marriages in June. Since that time 11,000 couples have wed.
Massachusetts has allowed same-sex marriages since May 2004. There have been 10,400 marriages in the state since that time.
