Georgia Democrat Compares McCain Rallies To Those By George Wallace

Today, it would seem that some supporters of Democratic Presidential nominee Senator Barack Obama of Illinois have fired back against GOP Presidential nominee Senator John McCain of Arizona and McCain’s VP running-mate Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. In the last few days, it seemed that there has been much tension going on. For those that have kept track of the news let alone the elections would notice the rage that has been directed towards Obama at the McCain rallies. It looked like there were plenty of people that were drunk on rage and anger. Recently, McCain found himself in the position of defending Obama. Perhaps McCain’s defense of Obama had come a wee bit too late. Today, Democratic Representative John Lewis of Georgia had launched an attack against McCain. This would be deemed a shocker to many including McCain. Lewis had compared the recent GOP rallies to those by former Alabama Democratic Governor George Wallace. For those that do not know who Wallace is, he served as Alabama’s governor for four terms: 1963-1967, 1971-1979, and 1983-1987. Wallace has been known to be a supporter of segregation and considered them to be a symbol of states’ rights. But Wallace changed his views in the late 1970s after being a born-again Christian. In regards to right now, Lewis redirected the anger at Obama back at McCain. “What I am seeing reminds me too much of another destructive period in American history. Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin are sowing the seeds of hatred and division, and there is no need for this hostility in our political discourse,” Lewis stated. But, there’s more… “George Wallace never threw a bomb. He never fired a gun, but he created the climate and the conditions that encouraged vicious attacks against innocent Americans who were simply trying to exercise their constitutional rights. Because of this atmosphere of hate, four little girls were killed on Sunday morning when a church was bombed in Birmingham, Alabama,” Lewis added. This had come to a shocker for McCain. In the past, McCain has given praise to Lewis. To top that off, McCain said that Lewis would be one of three men he would ask for counsel. But, McCain fired back at Lewis and asked Obama to reject those remarks. McCain called Lewis’ statements as unacceptable. In addition, McCain said that he was saddened by such remarks. So yes, one can say that the race card is looming over the Obama and McCain campaigns from now until Election Day. To top that off, the third and final debate between Obama and McCain will be taking place in a few days. These remarks could be equal ammunition for both Obama and McCain. Perhaps Palin might have some words to say to Lewis in the near future. Right now, Palin is currently campaigning in Pennsylvania. This seems like an omen for things to come.
