A woman finally revealed the secret at the hospital after she was kept prisoner by her own husband for 50 years. She was not allowed to leave the home alone nor talk to others.
The woman’s life turned to a nightmare as soon as she married in 1958; her jealous husband kept her as a prisoner in their home. This secret wouldn’t have been revealed if she was not admitted at the hospital for heart trouble.
She told the doctors at a hospital at Trento her story and how her husband kept her as a prisoner, never leaving her out of sight and not letting her talk with anyone else.
Both the husband and the wife are in their 70s and were not identified by the newspaper. They both have two grown-up children.
When the man left the house, he locked her up inside the house and didn’t let her watch any television shows.
After the woman complained to the doctors, one of them reported the story to the police.
The police spokesman told
AFP:
"It appears that the woman was kept a virtual prisoner in her own home for 50 years. She was only allowed out when her husband was with her and if he went out on his own he would lock all the doors and windows.
"At 5pm when he came back he would lock the place down, She was not even allowed to see her children and they were not allowed to visit.
The police said if the woman was not admitted to the hospital, her ordeal would have continued.
The local prosecutor has requested an order for the man to be removed from his home and taken to a facility where he can be interrogated.
