Us Brits have little knowledge about and despite the fairly low coverage of the White House race over here, I'd like to take the opportunity of expressing the rules of British school of Politics
There is certainly one thing we have in common with the US - our infamous taste in politicians and for that matter - leaders. Not only have we, as the rest of the world, witnessed some the legendary figures which America has produced, but we have also had our turn of parliamentary blunders.
At the moment we have Gordon Brown, and I say at the moment because I do firmly believe that his days are numbered - former Chancellor of the Exchequer, and now muscling in on next door at number 10, he has much to be laid at his feet in equal amounts as George W Bush (and over here, we have come to our own conclusions as to what that 'W' stands for) and for us, we have that familiar British chill running down our spines when standing in the wings is Mr John McCain (the only McCain we have made into a house hold name over in the UK, is for an oven chip) it is a worrying time for us Brits. Not only do we have to face our on crimes (more recently we have learned that local authorities have plunged millions of pounds in Icelandic Bank accounts and await how much we have lost - yet another mess that the British taxpayer is going to have to shell out and bail out) but we have, in the shadows the future fate of our cousins over the other side of the pond.
I know that in the past the UK has been nothing more than just a mere ashtray for the rest of the world to flick ash on (and please don't think for a moment that this is a little whimper-ette for some hugs) we have been able to take much of what has been thrown our way on the chin for a long time now, the fact of the matter this year is that we have let ourselves down. With the thought of our own banks - many of which we have been proud of over the decades, going nationalised before our eyes, we find ourselves at a time when the future looks bleak, and that feeling hasn't darkened our door since the strikes, blackouts and IRA terror blasts thirty odd years ago, something I can even say I have a good memory of.
So, as I watch the above posted video, I see another man who is more than likely to send us all down the long dark laundry shoot of uncertainty - plunging forever deep into a vat of disappointment and lack of financial security. Have the glory days gone for good for the Western World or can we look forward to a brighter future full of the sunshine of security and hope we once had?
It serves as being a very worrying time - it must be - I personally never worry about anything but yet recently I find myself watching how many lights are on upstairs when I'm not there. Do I really need to drive my car in to town or is there a reasonable chance that I could, just possible balance my entire weeks shopping on both handle bars and would I feel any better for it, holding in the back of mind that long and shin straining hill which is the agonising route home to my front door?
Who knows, the fact of the matter now is that for the first time we genuinely find ourselves vulnerable - not to the elements of Greenhouse gases, but something more sinister which darkens our future - the very men behind it and it is the likes of Mr Brown and Mr Bush who have our heart beats, souls and children in the palm of their hands.
America - our friends of the free world. Good luck in your elections.
Yours faithfully,
The United Kingdom
