A Cambodian couple have taken a diverse and unusual approach to the old statutory 'splitting everything in half' on separation - they have split the house - quite literally
Squabbling husband, Moeun Rim and his soon to be formally ex wife, Nhanh, have literally had enough of each other after a staggering 40 years together, so much so that after a bitter feud, they have sawn the house in half (a picture of the newly detached half can be found here.) It was the beginning of the end of their marriage when Mr Rim had become ill recently and his wife was accused by him of neglect.

The building has been completed split in half to bring an end to the fighting pair who have failed to agree on who gets what with regard to the property. Due to the rising costs with regard to divorces in Cambodia, the couple, it would seem at least agreed on one thing - to split the house to save money and time.

The land on which the house stands and which also is a part of the property they have shared for all these years has also been split into four - a part each including a part each for both of their children. Mr Rim's half of the house has be completed removed from the site.

It was a sad day when the couple could not reconcile. Talking to the local Post newspaper in Phnom Penh, the local chief, Vorng Morn said,

"We tried to persuade them to think clearly before they did this because they had been married for nearly 40 years. But they did not listen..."

Unfortunately in the eyes of the law, they are still legally married, despite now living apart. The house "split" on the other hand was perfectly legal simply because they had both agreed on it.

In the meantime, the divorce goes on, at least they now have their own space...
