A convicted child molester in Texas who admitted to molesting some two-hundred children is back in jail on charges for possession of porn. Larry Don McQuay helped Texas lawmakers spearhead a law allowing voluntary surgical castration for sex offenders.
A 44-year-old man and ex-school bus driver who
admitted to molesting hundreds of children requested castration and got his wish nearly a decade ago. In 2005, the convicted sex offender was released from prison for good behaviour under a heavily supervised work-release program in San Antonio, TX.
Now, he is back behind bars for allegedly possessing sexually explicit materials according to a
Texas news report.
Prison authorities held a hearing to determine whether 44-year-old Larry Don McQuay should be returned to prison for allegedly possessing sexually explicit materials.
His request to be castrated more than a decade ago led the Texas Legislature to make it available in 1997. At least three Texas inmates have undergone the surgery with hopes of curbing sexual desire. Medical professionals are unsure of its effectiveness.
The decision to revoke McQuay's supervised release is expected within the next few days. If he is sent back to prison, he could be there for another
eight years.
Texas passed the bill allowing voluntary surgical castration after Larry Don McQuay made a request saying that he would "eventually rape then murder my poor little victims to keep them from telling on me" as explained by the
Associated Press back in the late 1990s. At that time, California had begun requiring chemical castration for repeat offenders.
