Wednesday, it was announced that the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation has banned pedicures which use tiny fish that nibbles dead skin off people's feet. There has been some health concerns that this practise could spread infections.
Austin, TX - The new fad that swept the world of spas was having a pedicure done using hundreds of tiny fish which would gently nibble away the dead skin on people's feet. However, health experts are concerned the fish have the potential to spread infections.

A spokesman for the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation said there is concern because the foot baths and tanks that hold the fish may not be cleaned and disinfected properly. Yet, they are quick to add that there have been no reported cases of health problems due to the fish pedicures.

The Zen Luxury Nail & Beauty Bar in a Dallas suburb bought $2,500 worth of the fish. The co-owner told The Dallas Morning News she's not sure what they're going to do with the 500 guppy-like creatures now that fish pedicures are banned.

In the state of Washington, this same procedure was banned last week.

Here's one fad that will go 'belly-up'!
