A shooting at a local Knoxville, Tennessee mall Wednesday had customers and clerks running for cover. The shooter seemed to be focused on one sales clerk who died at the scene from multiple wounds.
The employee worked at Knoxville Center Mall. The employee and suspect are not being named at this time.
The suspect was shot by police. He is being treated at University of Tennessee Medical Center. There is no information as of yet to his condition.
One witness said that the suspect had a handgun which he fired nine times. Daniel Wiles was at the mall to pay his cell phone bill when the shooting occurred.
The assistant manager of Kay Jewelers, Cayla Corum had heard a report of a person carrying a handgun in the mall and was advised to shut the gates to her storefront.
Yahoo reports:
"At first, it sounded like firecrackers going off," said Corum, 21. "Then everyone started running. ... I've never experienced anything like it in my life."
Corum said she heard two shots, a pause, and then "at least 15" shots.
The mall was shut down for about an hour and a half after the shooting. Several stores had their gates closed as a precaution when they had shots fired.
