After the fight results of the Kimbo Slice vs. Seth Petruzelli match on the CBS EliteXC fight on Saturday night, the hype surrounding Kimbo Slice is nothing but hype.
The hype surrounding Miami, Florida-based street fighter turned mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Kevin Ferguson, who is better known as “Kimbo Slice,” was handed a devastating defeat at the hands of Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC) veteran Seth Petruzelli.

The fight was on the CBS EliteXC Saturday Night Fight card at the BankAtlantic Center at Sunrise, Florida. Kimbo Slice lost the match by TKO at the hands of Petruzelli at fourteen seconds into the first round. Patruzelli was a last-minute replacement for MMA veteran fighter Ken Shamrock.

Shamrock is the first person to hold the title of King of Pancrasist in Pancrase Hybrid Wrestling, the first ever UFC champion, and the first ever World Mixed Martial Arts Association champion. Also, Shamrock was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame.

However, Shamrock suffered a cut on his left eye and was ruled medically unfit to participate in the match against Kimbo Slice.

Not only did Petruzelli TKO Slice in fourteen seconds, he also gave Slice a black-eye.

According to Slice, it was the first black eye that he had received. Despite this devastating loss, EliteXC strongly believes that Slice is still very marketable. However, the fight had shattered all of the hype that surrounded Slice.

Ironically, Slice has been training against MMA legend and veteran Bas Rutten. Rutten is a former UFC Heavyweight Champion and King of Pancrase.

Many can call Slice’s loss an insult to Rutten’s training.

Overall, the devastating loss shows that Slice is by no means ready for the world of MMA. The devastating loss proves it. Perhaps it may deal a damaging blow to EliteXC as it considers Slice its flagship fighter.

After this loss, Slice says that he plans to work at a local gym closer to his home. Overall, the loss had shattered the hype surrounding Kimbo Slice.

One can ask: How did Kimbo Slice reach the world of MMA?

To answer that question, Kimbo Slice fought in unsanctioned street fighters throughout Miami, Florida. Those videos were uploaded onto YouTube. My homeboy Emmanuel had introduced me to Slice’s fights back in 2006.

On a personal note, I strongly felt that Slice was neither ready for MMA nor did he have any business fighting in MMA. For those that had carefully watched Slice’s street fights on YouTube, he had won his fights my one-hit knockout. But, Slice’s opponents looked to be merely people that were picked off the side of the street.

There are two notable Kimbo Slice fights on YouTube.

In one fight, his opponent gave up. At the end, it was revealed that Slice had busted his opponent’s eye open. That was from one punch.

The second fight was against Sean Gannon, a former Boston Police officer. This is the one fight that brought the undivided attention of the MMA world.

Personally, I thought the fight with Gannon was total crap. For those that have watched that fight, there was way too much interference from Slice’s entourage.

In a nutshell, this loss could pose as a devastating setback for Slice. The question is: How will Slice rebound from this loss?

Up for a Kimbo Slice of humble pie, anybody?
