Drinking in space is prohibited by NASA and the Russian space agencies, but a cosmonaut wants a change in the policies that will allow drinking.
Salizhan Sharipov has returned from the International Space Station after staying for four years in space. He said an occasional drink would help cosmonauts relax.
Sharipov spoke at a press conference and said space agencies should allow up to 50mm of wine or cognac per day. Sharipov told
AFP:
"But only to improve our work, to better cope with the psychological stress."
He arrived at the International Space Station in Oct. 2004 along with Italian and American astronauts.
He returned back to earth via a Soyuz capsule and landed safely in Kazakhstan this week.
