Sep 25, 2008 - Tasered Man Dies After 10-Foot Fall - 16 comments
NYPD Lieutenant Michael W. Pigott, has committed suicide early Thursday morning. He gave the order to fire a Taser stun gun at a naked, distraught man on a ledge. The man plunged 10-feet to his death.
Early Thursday morning the police lieutenant who authorized the use of a Taser stun gun on a man who then fell from the ledge where he was standing has apparently committed suicide.

Lieutenant, Michael W. Pigott, a 21-year veteran of the force, was found shot in the head at Floyd Bennett Field.

Pigott had been stripped of his badge and gun and been placed on modified assignment after the incident last week.

Debra Myers had reported the incident last week.

Iman Morales was standing naked on a building ledge showing signs of being emotionally disturbed when he was shot by a Taser and plunged 10-feet to his death.

After the death of Mr.Morales the police department announced it appeared the Taser had been used in violation of departmental rules. A new Emergency Service Unit was named and it was emphasized there was need for additional training.

According to The New York Times, Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly said in a statement: Upon behalf of all of the members of the New York City Police Department, I extend deepest condolences to the family and friends of Lt. Michael W. Pigott who served with dedication for 21 years.
