In her interview with CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric, Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah palin was unable to name a single newspaper she has read or was reading.
Previously, Palin said she stays up-to-date with world news by reading various newspapers and journals.
Couric wanted to know the names of some of the newspapers and magazine she read, but when she asked Palin, the VP candidate couldn't name a single one.
As the transcript reads:
COURIC: And when it comes to establishing your world view, I was curious, what newspapers and magazines did you regularly read, before you were tapped for this, to stay informed and to understand the world?
PALIN: I've read most of them again with a great appreciation for the press for the media, I mean...
COURIC: Like what ones specifically? I'm curious that you...
PALIN: Um, all of 'em, any of 'em that um have been in front of me over all these years, um...
COURIC: Can you name any of them?
PALIN: I have a vast variety of sources where we get our news too. Alaska isn't a foreign country where it's kind of suggested it seems like, wow how could you keep in touch with what the rest of Washington, DC may be thinking and doing, when you live up there in Alaska. Believe me, Alaska is like a microcosm of America.
Palin only need to give a simple answer to a simple question, but for some reason she gave a confused response. She has a journalism degree and yet was unable to name a single newspaper, weekly or magazines, including online sources.
There are about
1,422 daily newspapers in the U.S., and 6,253 weeklies and an innumerable number of
magazines. Add online sites and blogs to that list and there are countless sources. She could at least have mentioned her local news paper from Anchorage, the
Anchorage Daily News.
