In one of Obama's political ads, McCain is being blamed for Corning, Inc. shutting down one of its plants in 2004 to send the jobs overseas. However, Corning, Inc. never sent those jobs overseas because the plant quit producing cathode ray tubes.
Corning, NY - Not surprisingly, the ad by Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has drawn fire from Corning, Inc. because the company is mentioned having done something it in fact did not do.. The ad states the following:

"Corning shuts down its plant in Pennsylvania, hundreds lose their jobs, then the workers are rehired to disassemble the plant and ship the equipment to China. Washington sold them out with the help of people like John McCain."

Corning Inc. spokeswoman Kelli Hopp-Michlosky told WETM that the plant closed because they were no longer making cathode ray tubes (CRTs), which terminated those jobs as they were no longer needed. The jobs did not get moved to China.

"We have been in touch with the Obama campaign on this expressing our displeasure and presenting all the facts so they see how misleading the ad appears. We will continue to speak with them on this," Mopp-Michlosky said.

With Corning, Inc. being shown in a negative light, this will not set well with the company or the voters.

Next question: Will there be a formal apology by Obama?
