Op-Ed: Britain Adopts Islamic Law, Sharia Courts to Have Full Civil Powers

By Johnny Simpson     Sep 15, 2008 in World
Islamic Law has been officially adopted in Britain, with sharia courts given powers to rule on Muslim civil cases, including domestic violence. I wonder how that will turn out.
From FOX News, though it belongs in Ripley's:
The government has quietly sanctioned the powers for sharia judges to rule on cases ranging from divorce and financial disputes to those involving domestic violence.
Rulings issued by a network of five sharia courts are enforceable with the full power of the judicial system, through county courts or the country's High Court, a part of its Supreme Court system.
Previously, the rulings of sharia courts in Britain could not be enforced, and depended on voluntary compliance among Muslims.
Politicians and church leaders expressed concerns that this could mark the beginnings of a “parallel legal system” based on sharia for some British Muslims.
Winston Churchill had days like these. Only difference was, he stood up and fought.
Like this one voice of reason in the English PC wilderness:
Dominic Grieve, the shadow home secretary, said: “If it is true that these tribunals are passing binding decisions in the areas of family and criminal law, I would like to know which courts are enforcing them because I would consider such action unlawful. British law is absolute and must remain so.”
For the first time in nearly a thousand years, English law will no longer be based exlusively on the tenets of the Magna Carta.
Do they have any idea how this will complicate their lives? I think not.
If Sharia courts have full civil power, what of the rights of women, which are practially nonexistent under Islamic Law?
What of the rights of Islam's critics? Will the horrendous situation involving libel suits become even more oppressive?
If LiveLeak were to braodcast another Fitna, or any material offensive to Islam, will a British Islamic court slap them with a binding injunction? If ANY such case is brought before an Islamic court in Britain, what are the chances of Islam's perceived offender getting a pass from the judge based on free speech rights?
This is so psychotic and suicidal I can't even go on. Had all I can handle right now.
I say again:
Ox, Where Is Thy Yoke?
You all know the ramifications.
Discuss amongst yourselves.
I'm too verklempt right now.
And oh yeah, Britain will soon have the skyline to match the one big No-Go Zone that England now appears to be becoming in rapid and spectacular fashion.
