Star Trek's Hikaru Sulu, George Takei, is officially off the market after wedding vows were exchanged in a ceremony Sunday at the Democracy Forum of the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles, CA. The gay couple have been together for 21 years.
Just three years after coming out of the closet, the former Star Trek actor married his partner of 21 years, Brad Altman in Los Angeles, California yesterday. Despite an almost 20 year age difference between 71-year-old Takei and 54-year-old Altman, they are still going strong.

According to Pop Eater, the couple's ceremony was quite spectacular:

The couple, both clad in white dinner jackets with black pants, made a grand entrance to the tune of "One Singular Sensation" from the Broadway musical "A Chorus Line." They stepped into a circle of yellow roses and lilies, where they shared a traditional Japanese tea ceremony and were wed by a Buddhist priest.

During the ceremony, the couple exchanged their self-written wedding vows, where the Star Trek actor lovingly called his new husband "organized, detail-obsessed, punctuality-driven control freak." After an exchange of turquoise wedding bands, they were then pronounced "spouses for life" by the priest in front of approximately 200 guests and their best man, Walter Koenig, and best lady, Nichelle Nichols, both of which were Takei's co-stars on Star Trek. The couple and a few family and friends then departed to sounds of bagpipe music.

The Associated Press interviewed Takei just prior to the ceremony, where he described the inequalities associated with homosexuals and was quoted as saying:

We have a relationship that's been stronger and longer-lived than some of our straight friends, and yet we were not equal," Takei told The Associated Press before the ceremony. "What this does is give us that dignity; (it's) being part of the American system and being whole. We're making the American system whole as well, as America is becoming more equal."

They were the first couple in line to purchase the $70 US marriage license following the Supreme Court ruling that legalized gay marriage.

Takei and Altman are planning their honeymoon in Argentina and Peru.
