A new animal awareness is sweeping the world, or at least that part of the world known as Switzerland. Read all about the new law that grants pigs the right to shower whenever they want.
According to
news sources, a new Swiss legislation will affect the treatment of both domestic animals and wild animals in zoos or circuses. While this is certainly welcome for abused animals and those that love them, there seems something a bit awry in some of its aspects. Pigs are usually quite happy rolling in mud, but a cleaner day has come and they may soon change their habits (whether they want to or not). As of September 1, pigs have the right to shower, although caps, soap and shower curtains are not provided.
The new law is very strict about the treatment of “social animals.” Household pets such as hamsters or parakeets can no longer be kept by themselves and pet fish, in order to maintain the natural cycle of day and night, must be kept in aquariums which are not transparent on all sides. Fishermen now are forbidden to do catch-and-release fishing, and the new law also forbids flushing live fish down the toilet, insisting the fish must be killed first. (
How can a law like this be enforced? Will police be stationed outside of private toilets?)
Dog owners must also make some changes under the new law. They will now have to attend special classes for instruction on how to properly raise dogs. The cropping of ears and tails for the sake of fashion is no longer allowed. Farmers breeding sheep and goats must permit their animals to have at least visual contact with the rest of the flock.
Okay on some of these, but as far as the pigs are concerned, well, I think some of legislators may need to get back on the wagon before they make any more decisions.
Here’s to pigs (clean or dirty) everywhere.
