Microsoft has posted a pro-Windows ads, featuring comedian Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates as an attack against Apple’s “Get a Mac” commercials.
Microsoft has hired Seinfeld for a series of Windows commercials designed to be funny as well as highlight the various features of Vista and other Microsoft products. The first ad is available on TV (shown here) and it is neither funny nor it is a buzz worthy ad.
This ad doesn’t talk about any specific Microsoft product nor does it compare Vista with Mac OS X, whereas Apple had a good set of ads with their “Get a Mac” series that features Justin Long as Mac and John Hodgeman as PC. Apple’s ads were not only funny to watch but also showed the advantages of using a Mac system versus using a PC system.
The ad shows Jerry Seinfeld interacting with Bill Gates in a discount shoe store. As usual Seinfeld wisecracks just like he did in his popular show. In the end he and Gates talk about computers. TechCrunch said that Gates and Seinfeld will be paired in more commercials very soon.
One commenter in Gizmodo said it best, "It is a commercial about nothing". Just like the Seinfeld’s popular series was based on nothing, this ad is about nothing.
Microsoft ends the commercial with a slogan “The Future ... Delicious”.
