Google has signed an exclusive deal with satellite company GeoEye for exclusive rights to all photos taken by a new extremely high resolution satellite.
GeoEye is a commercial satellite company who, on September 6, 2008 will launch the most powerful commercial imagery satellite in existence.
The launch of GeoEye-1 from from Space Launch Complex-2 at Vandenberg Air Force base on-board a Delta III rocket supplied by
United Launch Alliance, represents a dramatic leap forward in the quality of satellite imagery for commercial purposes.
GeoEye-1 will have the ability to identify an object 16 inches in size from over 400 miles in space.
The 4200 hundred pound eye in the sky will orbit Earth's Poles 15 times per day relaying a continuous flow of images to strategically located
Ground Stations while travelling over 17,000 miles per hour.
Google wants
exclusive access to these high resolution pictures that will enhance Google's Mapping Technology.
The exclusive agreement allows Google to make significant strides into the commercial arena where accurate mapping information is a growth business.
