Tuesday, a 9-month old little girl died because she'd been forgotten in the family's minivan for over two hours in the heat. The foster mother's excuse was that she 'forgot' to grab the baby after getting the other two adopted girls out of the van.
Atlanta - Sheriff's deputies are continuing an
investigation into the death of a 9-month old baby girl that was left in a van by her foster mother Tues. According to the woman, she said that she forgot to get the baby out of the car seat after they arrived back home around 2:30 p.m. from a doctor's appointment.
The woman, identified as
Wende Osborne, told police that after arriving home, she went in and took a nap with her two 3-year old girls and when she woke back up around 5 p.m., she remembered only then that she'd forgotten to take the infant out of the van.
The little girl has been identified as Jessica Marie Scovil. Jessica was pronounced dead at the scene. The two other foster children, both teen girls ages 15- and 16-years old were removed from the home and placed in other foster homes temporarily.
Osborne told deputies she had been sick for several days and was prescribed medication for strep throat, which may have contributed to her drowsiness. A toxicology report has been ordered, and charges could be filed.
According to the state
Division of Family and Children Services Osborne has been a foster parent for 5 years and there had been no indication of any problems with Osborne as a foster parent, however they are going to do their own investigation onto the infant's death.
State Child Advocate Tom Rawlings stated that if what Osborne has stated is the truth, he would likely oppose any criminal charges.
“I usually look at these kinds of situations as there but for the grace of God go I.”
