article imageOp-Ed: Could McCain Be Using Bristol As A Means Of Avoiding Issues?

By KJ Mullins     Sep 3, 2008 in Politics
In light of the recent all consuming news over the fact that Sarah Palin's daughter is in the family way and the fact that John McCain knew about before naming Palin as his VP candidate was this a ploy? McCain isn't a dummy.
Smart move.
The issues aren't the issue anymore.
The world loves a good scandal. It's why tabloids do such a brisk business. Give us the dirt and we'll come running. Palin sure has brought in a bit of dirt to this presidential campaign. Perhaps just in the nick of time.
The McCain-Palin team is not shying away from teenage pregnancy. It's front and center. A teenage mother who is marrying the boy, pro-life all the way.
Is it the most important issue though for the United States?
While I was scanning the headlines it does appear to be. The issues are taking a back seat to a family situation. And for McCain that's pretty good news. His girl is on the front of every paper. Is Obama's team slings any trash that is going to make the American public side with poor little Bristol. Dang, McCain was a genius.
What's more Bristol will be almost ready to pop out that baby right in time for the election. Wonderful news when it comes to gossip and headlines.
Some have questioned if Palin was properly vetted. The answer is for getting the focus off of what is really wrong with America she was superb.
So will it work? It will be interesting to see if little scandals that could be in any American home will keep the newspapers going until November. If they do, who cares about the issues. The dirty news will decide the vote.
