An unidentified man is being sought after having been bit by a bat, which later tested positive for rabies. The man was at a small park when he picked up the bat and was bitten. This individual needs to be found to begin the sequence of rabies shots.
Ithaca, NY - An alert has gone out via the
media in effort to find a man who was bitten by what turned out to be a rabid bat Sunday. The man is thought to be between 20 and 25 years old,
approximately 6 feet tall with brown hair, longer in the back than on the sides, and dark eyes. The description on
Cornell University's website also states that he has noticeable tattoos on his arms and hands, as well. A young woman with blond dreadlocks was with him and they were walking an unleashed dog.
The incident happened in a small park in downtown Ithaca, and the bat that this man picked up was caught by the health department. The bat was tested at the NYS Rabies Laboratory, where it was found that the bat was rabid.
Without these rabies shots, the bite could be fatal. This man must begin the
rabies post-exposure regimen immediately.
