Sometime next week, the iPhone 3G will outsell the original iPhone worldwide, just within seven weeks of sales. TechCrunch reports Apple is making iPhones at a rate of 800,000 units per week.
Digital Journal -- The first weekend of iPhone 3G sales should have been the ultimate sign of success. After selling a million 3Gs in the first two days, Apple will enjoy another landmark event: sometime next week, TechCrunch's sources admit, the iPhone 3G will be in more hands compared to the first generation iPhone. The blog believes next week will see the the sale of 6 million iPhone 3Gs worldwide.
Apple is on pace to sell 40 million 3Gs in the next year, TechCrunch added.
While it took iPhone 3G only two days to reach the one-million mark, it took 74 days for the original iPhone to surpass one million sold units.
Internationally, the iPhone 3G is moving briskly. Between November and May, T-Mobile has sold 120,000 iPhone 3Gs in Germany, Austria and the Netherlands. And Russia's wireless provider predicts it will sell 3.5 million 3Gs within the next two years.
